GA House Rep. Sharon Cooper proclaims herself "pro-life". Her many documented actions prove otherwise. She spoke against the Prenatal Non Discrimination bill in the Judicial Non-Civil Committee in 2011 and then abstained from voting it out of committee. She was the only member to boycott the Judicial Non-Civil Committee during the hearing in 2012 on the Fetal Pain bill which bans all abortion from the time a fetus can feel pain. She was the ONLY Republican to speak against the bill on the floor of the House during debate and then she didn't have the courage to vote her conviction. . . she went to the clerk and got an "Excused" absence so that she wouldn't have a negative prolife vote on her record. She returned promptly and voted on other legislation immediately following the 102-65 passage of the bill.
Her diatribe against Georgia Right to Life during the floor debate was a result of GRTL President Dan Becker confronting her duplicity and opposition to all prolife efforts. "All I did was point out to her her many actions that belie her self-proclaimed status of being prolife." said Becker. "For the last few years she has been an outspoken critic of all pro-life legislation that has come before her on the Judicial Non-civil Committee. She spoke vehemently against the Prenatal Non-Discrimination Act in committee and then refused to vote at all. This is her modus operandi, she opposes all of our recent prolife bills in committee AND on the floor AND then "walks the vote"" thereby claiming her record is clean." says Becker. "She is not pro-life, though she continues to tell pro-life voters as recently as last week that she is."
